Uruguayan businesswoman, Gabriela Castro-Fontoura of Sunny Sky Solutions, specialises in helping UK businesses to research and break into new markets across Latin America.

On the eve of the Olympics, all eyes will once again turn to this relatively untapped continent and Gabriela argues that businesses should look beyond Brazil and target easier opportunities in key markets including Uruguay, Chile and Colombia.

For too long, businesses have been urged to target the BRIC economies and all have proved frustrating, challenging and expensive. By looking at simpler neighbouring economies, Yorkshire business leaders can gain much easier access to similar rapidly-growing markets.

• Gabriela Castro-Fontoura is director of Sunny Sky Solutions, set up to help UK businesses trade in Latin America.  Born in Uruguay, she started her business when living in Skipton and recently republished Doing business with Latin America. She will share her expert insights, experiences and contacts from this untapped continent.

• Rob Lucas, a partner and Head of IP at Shulmans and a member of the international team, specialises in international IP. Rob also sits on the International Trade Mark Association committee on parallel imports. Rob will identify key IP considerations for Latin American markets.

• Gordon MacRae is special projects manager at Gripple, one of the country’s most innovative and dynamic manufacturers. With a strong culture of new product development, Gripple exports across Latin America and the rest of the world and recently won another Queen’s Award for International Trade in recognition of its continuing drive to find new customers around the globe.

• Sharon Ratcliffe is commercial manager at PBS International, a manufacturer of technical fabric products to help plant breeders around the world. The business has been trading in Latin America for decades and recently developed a new product specifically for that market.
