The Leeds-based International School for Linguists, which delivers a range of innovative programmes to improve language skills, has been recognised by two major national awards for a course that enables people to embark on a career as an interpreter.

The school’s Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting has been shortlisted in both the prestigious Training Journal Awards and the Learning Technologies Awards.

General Manager of the International School for Linguists, Rob Mynett, says: “We listen to what the sector needs and then we work to create innovative and high quality programmes – that’s what makes us stand out from the crowd.

“To be nominated for these awards is fantastic and its confirmation that we are doing things the right way. We deliver the skills businesses and organisations need and then we create the programmes that enable people to get the qualifications they need in a format that fits in with their lifestyle.”

The Level 3 Certificate is an entry level qualification for people wanting to work as an interpreter for the majority of public sector assignments. It is a distance learning programme and is completed in an average of six months, but can be adapted to fit around students’ existing commitments.

The innovative programme combines online training modules with live assignments to ensure everyone is properly prepared for work as an interpreter.

In the Training Journal Awards, the programme has been shortlisted for the Best Private/Commercial Programme and is competing against major companies like TSB, AIG and Bank of Ireland. In the Learning Technologies Awards, the course has been shortlisted for the Best Online Distance Learning Programme Award.

Both awards will be announced at prestigious awards ceremonies in London later in the year.

The International School of Linguists is a learning and development partner to Europe’s largest language services provider, thebigword, and provides a range of innovative and bespoke programmes to help improve access to training and qualifications while improving the standard of language education and support.

It delivers a range of qualifications for linguists and also develops assessment programmes and training schemes for individual customers to ensure their language skills are of the highest standard.

Mynett adds: “We make our programmes extremely accessible and ensure everyone with a talent for languages can fulfil their potential. From distance learning to flexible payment options, we are working to deliver what both businesses and linguists need and we’re extremely proud to be recognised in these awards.”
