New MBA to bring management expertise to Italian manufacturing and engineering sector

Top 25 European business school, Bradford University School of Management, is teaming up with the University of Perugia’s faculty of engineering to launch a joint MBA programme.
Italy is a world leader in manufacturing and engineering processes and technologies, exporting products including machine tools, textiles, clothing, cars, domestic appliances and petrochemicals, all over the world. The sector is worth €25 million and is made up of 5,000 companies comprising some well known multinationals and large numbers of small-medium enterprises.
Management skills are becoming increasingly important for engineers and there are currently only two business schools in Italy with MBAs ranked in the top 100 in Europe.
The Perugia MBA programme will give students the opportunity to combine management and business modules with specialist engineering and manufacturing modules based in Italy’s Umbria region – home to an industrial base of small and large manufacturing and food enterprises.
Dr Roger Beach, associate dean of postgraduate programmes at Bradford University School of Management, said: “The joint programme is designed to fill a gap in the market for MBAs in Italy in response to demand from the country’s vibrant manufacturing and engineering industry. It will give local businesses access to MBA level management expertise and students will have the flexibility to specialise in their chosen area using the combined expertise of both institutions.”
Paolo Carbone, MBA Director at the University of Perugia, said: “Offering Bradford’s well established MBA will help boost our business credentials and management research capabilities. Italian firms are becoming increasingly aggressive in their recruitment and are looking for the world’s best business minds. Graduates will gain experience of Italian business culture, which will put them at an advantage in the Italian and international jobs markets. The cost of living in Perugia is also surprisingly low.”
There are approximately 50 places available on the full-time one-year Perugia MBA starting in September 2011. The programme will be taught in English and all students will have the opportunity to undertake a three month internship with a local enterprise on completion of their studies. The joint programme will also benefit students studying in Bradford as student exchanges between institutions will be encouraged.
Bradford University School of Management’s MBA programmes currently attract UK and international students with managerial experience from over 40 countries including India, China, USA, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. The School has aspirations to offer its MBA as a joint programme with universities across the world to offer students the flexibility to take modules in different locations and experience different business cultures.
